Handcrafted stoneware cup with autumn leaf-inspired glaze and earthy, browns and gold by Kathy Johns

Inspired by the natural beauty of the West Coast, Kathy Johnstone creates functional stoneware pottery that reflects her love of water, trees, and the intricate patterns found in leaves. Working with both wheel-thrown and slab-built techniques, she designs tableware that is as practical as it is beautiful.

Kathy often impresses real leaves into her pieces, then uses oxides and layered glazes to highlight their delicate textures. Each piece is a reflection of nature, her creative process, and the energy she brings to the clay. For Kathy, pottery is not just about form—it’s about feeling, flow, and connection.

As a potter and sculptor Susan Johnston enjoys to be part of an historical continuum in a medium that has changed very little over time. She is inspired by medieval and rustic forms from many cultures. A love for folk art and an appreciation for Canadiana pottery has also inspired her work. Biblical beasts and texts have given Susan an inner notion of the creative dynamic that is found in the Old Testament. This dynamic finds its way into Susan‘s work especially in her large heraldic jars. She enjoys creating lines of specific pottery often incorporating sculptural detail.

Many (many) moons ago Sharon made a carrot with clay. She was five and was hooked. Before Sharon retired she was able to share her passion for art with many students in my primary classes and after school clubs in both Alberta and B.C. She continues to have fun with clay and hopes that some of her creations might make others smile as well! .

Tammy Parks-Legge creates functional pottery using both electric and wood kilns, each producing distinct results. Her electric kiln yields vibrant, whimsical, and colorful pieces that are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. In contrast, her wood kiln produces warm, golden pottery with natural wood ash effects, iron speckling, and unique flashing, making each piece one-of-a-kind. The unpredictable nature of each firing adds excitement and surprise to her creative process.
